Sometimes, "Patriotism" is not enough

I saw my Patriots do something last night they typically do not do: lose a playoff game.

The season, fraught with injuries, was a great run that ended in anticlimax, and the elusive three-peat in football remains so.

Yesterday the Reverend Jerry Falwell condemned "King Kong" for its thinly veiled attempts to advance the bestiality agenda.

"It began in the '80s with 'Gorillas in the Midst,'" railed Falwell. "And now we see this, a thinly veiled attempt to build support for bestiality, an unnatural act condemned in the Bible. It's a slap in the face to Christians everywhere doing their best to protect their children from sex with animals."

When asked whether he thought the bestiality agenda may, in fact, stretch back to the 1930s, when the original "King Kong" hit theaters, Falwell said, "Actually, you're probably right, because liberals were in power back then, too."

Like I said, it's good to be a Patriot

We writers can be a vain bunch. But when Dan Shaughnessy, widely considered one of journalism's best sports writers, recounted in The Boston Globe yesterday's 28-3 victory by the New England Patriots over the Jacksonville Jaguars, well, he wrote the way I write only in my dreams, and my vanity gave way to grateful reverence:
